Laughing Girl

I think that Nicholai Fechin was a superb draftsman--maybe the best in recent history!  This charcoal drawing was done in his style and the source material was inspired by his photographs from his travels to Mexico. I do enjoy drawing in charcoal; indeed, it is like painting but without color--just value.  Instant gratification!

Light on Blue Vase

This was a study of how light hits a flower arrangement resulting in a warm glow on a dark background.  Oil on board, 10"x12", still life.

Parking Lot in Crested Butte

I did this one while competing in a plein air show in the beautiful town of Crested Butte, Colorado.  It is a simple oil on board, 8"x6" of some aspens and flowers planted next to the parking lot at the visitor's center.  It was juried into the show!  It verges on the abstract which appeals to the innate senses of the viewer. I have shown this one in two shows including the juried Colorado Plein Air show that is held annually in Denver. Hope you like it and if interested, I will part with it.  It is framed in a black satin wood frame with gold insert.

South Platte Park in Summer

Here in Denver we are never in need of picturesque spots--from urban scenes to mountain views to tranquil city parks--this is a great area for subject matter for plein air.

This little oil on canvas board is plein air 6"x8" of a small path in the South Platte River Park on the southside of Denver near my home.  It was a hot summer day so I found a shady spot and sketched this one out in about an hour or so.  Hope you like it.

Portraits of sisters in my old neighborhood done in oil on canvas. 16"x20". NFS

I enjoy portraiture and would like to do more. These little girls have such large personalities that I had trouble capturing them.

Native American Dancer

Such a beautiful female in a beautiful outfit!  I had to try to paint it and wanted to capture the joy and dignity of the dancer.  Hope you like it!  Oil on canvas, 24"x18".
