Hot Summer Day by South Platte River
As a plein air artist, I find myself in unbearable conditions such as this one! So hot that my oil paints almost ran off my palette. I look back at these paintings and recall every detail of that painting session! Grass, bugs, heat, quizzical looks from passerbys, trying to balance the darks of the shadows in the tree against the cast shadows in the grass....in theory, the vertical shadows should be a darker value than the horizontal shadows....hmmm.
Small landscape, oil on board, 6"x8". Hope you enjoy this as much as I did painting it...and yes, I love the process, heat, bugs, etc

Cottonwood and Building
A small plein air oil painting of a cottonwood beside a building. It was a hot summer day along Santa Fe highway near my home. We have lots of beautiful cottonwoods here--strong and majestic.

Parking Lot in Crested Butte
I did this one while competing in a plein air show in the beautiful town of Crested Butte, Colorado. It is a simple oil on board, 8"x6" of some aspens and flowers planted next to the parking lot at the visitor's center. It was juried into the show! It verges on the abstract which appeals to the innate senses of the viewer. I have shown this one in two shows including the juried Colorado Plein Air show that is held annually in Denver. Hope you like it and if interested, I will part with it. It is framed in a black satin wood frame with gold insert. fragman56@yahoo.com

South Platte Park in Summer
Here in Denver we are never in need of picturesque spots--from urban scenes to mountain views to tranquil city parks--this is a great area for subject matter for plein air.
This little oil on canvas board is plein air 6"x8" of a small path in the South Platte River Park on the southside of Denver near my home. It was a hot summer day so I found a shady spot and sketched this one out in about an hour or so. Hope you like it. fragman56@yahoo.com.

Bear Creek
I stopped by my favorite "home waters" trout stream to do a little plein air painting and came out with this. I entered this 12"x12" oil on board into the 2015 Colorado Plein Air juried competition and was accepted! It showed in the Denver Downtown Library last year. Lots of impasto which I love. I must fish this hole as soon as I can since I know that the big troutsky lives there! $700 + shipping. I have a custom antiqued gold frame that looks spectacular on it. fragman56@yahoo.com
