Creste Butte River

A small plein air done for the Crested Butte Open Plein Air.  8"x6" oil on board. A magnificent setting!  Morning by the riverside watching/listening to the gently waterfall catching the morning sun.  Lovely, magical time and place for painting plein air.

Laughing Girl

I think that Nicholai Fechin was a superb draftsman--maybe the best in recent history!  This charcoal drawing was done in his style and the source material was inspired by his photographs from his travels to Mexico. I do enjoy drawing in charcoal; indeed, it is like painting but without color--just value.  Instant gratification! 

Brock Holding Umbrella

I tried to convey the light filtering through trees and striking the umbrella after a rain storm. Oil on canvas. NFS 20"x16"

Toni's Dad

A portrait of Toni's Dad done in oil on canvas with thick impasto. I love doing portraits like this and really have not done enough!  His ruddy complexion changes according to the light that falls on this painting--late day or sunsets causes a reddish glow, midday northern light brightens up the skin tones--really interesting to see how the skin tones vary with the light! 20"x16" oil on canvas, NFS.

Indian Portrait
